We all know that life can be chaotic, and it’s not always realistic to be able to head away on a city break or for a spa weekend to ease the stress. Sometimes peace and calm has to come from the more ordinary moments that life gives us, which are often actually the best moments.
Here are a few moments that calm me…
Writing in a cafe
It doesn’t have to be writing, whatever you enjoy doing. I just find taking myself and a notebook into a cafe makes me feel calm. There’s just something about being focused on something I’m passionate about whilst life carries on around me – it makes me happy.
Okay, I am obsessed with this! The last time I went to England I came back with about 50 crystals! Haha I absolutely love buying crystals and reading about their meaning and purpose. Also, putting them around my bedroom encourages a peaceful atmosphere. I love doing angel cards too.
Going to the beach at night
I’m not too sure why I love doing this because I’m not overly fussed about the beach during the daytime, I think it could be something to do with a book I used to read with my mum as a child about a little girl who goes to the beach at midnight with her mum. I always say the first thing I’m going to do when I get my full driver’s license is drive to the beach at night time, I can’t wait! I love the feeling that it’s just me and the water, it’s so calming and everything seems less daunting.
Watching the stars
This technique always grounds me. If I’m feeling overwhelmed I look at the sky and realise how minor this problem is in the grand scheme of things. The stars have watched all of our best and worst memories unfold, but they’re still there, still shining. This is one of the reasons I love living in the countryside, the sky is so clear.
Switching on fairy lights
My bedroom is like an ad for Penneys at this stage to be honest, I can’t stop buying their fairy lights! I love scattering them around my bedroom, they’re the perfect way to unwind after a stressful day. It’s like my own little cosy, safe space.
